Internet: The internet is global communication network that allows people from around the world to share information. Email, FTP, and instant messaging are all features on the internet.



Router: A router is a device that routes data packets through networks. 



TCP/IP: Stands for Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol. Made up on many communication protocols it is used to to connect hosts on the internet. It is 'The" standard for transferring data through networks.


Browser: Web browsers are programs used to view webpage. They transfer HTML from code into a viewable format. Browsers also interpret javascript, and play audio and video.




Firewall: A firewall screens all data that passes through it in order to prevent unauthorized internet users. They can be used in either software or a hardware device. A router is a good example of a hardware devise firewall.

Proxy: A proxy server is a server that all computers on a network with a proxy have to go through. It servers two main purposes. First, by increasing speed at which webpages load by temporarily storing information when the website was previously viewed. Secondly, they can be used to block access to specified websites on a server.




WIFI: Stands for "Wireless Fidelity". WiFi is used to connect computers and other internet devices to a wireless signal. Wireless devices contain a WiFi card which searches for a network signal to connect to the internet.




ISP: Stands for Internet Service Provider. It is the company that provides internet access to users. 



Netiquette: Conjunction of Net Etiquette. It refers to how people on an online chat room, email or discussion group communicate. Poor netiquette could involve spam emails or excessive messaging. 


 

Streaming: Streaming is a way of listening or watching multimedia files without completely downloading them. Live video can be streamed to your computer with a fast internet connection.
